Is Form 1A issued online accepted by RTOs across India?▼
The Motor Vehicles Act does not distinguish between in-person and teleconsultation medical examinations. A Form 1A signed by a licensed medical practitioner is valid regardless of the consultation mode. Our doctors have issued Form 1A accepted by RTOs in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and other cities.
Which driving licence categories require Form 1A?▼
Form 1A is required for all driving licence applications and renewals. For heavy motor vehicles (HMV) and transport vehicles, additional fitness requirements may apply. For licence holders above 40 years applying for renewal, medical fitness is mandatory.
What is assessed during the Form 1A examination?▼
The doctor assesses: (1) Visual acuity — both eyes, with and without correction, (2) Colour vision — ability to distinguish traffic signal colours, (3) Hearing — ability to hear a whisper at 3 meters, (4) Physical fitness — limb function, no physical disability affecting driving, (5) Medical history — epilepsy, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension.
Do I need to visit the RTO in person after getting Form 1A?▼
Form 1A is submitted as part of your DL application at the RTO or via Sarathi (online DL portal). The medical certificate is one document in the application bundle. You may still need to visit the RTO for the driving test, but the medical form can be completed online.
What if I wear glasses — does that affect DL eligibility?▼
No. Corrected visual acuity that meets the prescribed standard (6/6 or 6/9 with correction) qualifies you for a driving licence with a 'corrective lenses required' endorsement. Our doctor will document your corrected vision in the form.
How long is Form 1A valid?▼
Form 1A has no statutory expiry, but RTOs typically accept forms issued within 30–90 days of the DL application date. We recommend getting the form when you're ready to apply, not months in advance.
